Pilates
(pronounced "puh-LAH-teez"),
The Pilates method, is a total body-conditioning workout that blends Eastern and Western philosophies and mental conditioning. It emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. Pilates includes the stretching benefits of a yoga class with the muscle tone from a nautilus workout. The Pilates system is designed to stretch and strengthen the major muscles of the body: abdominals, lower back, hips, and buttocks. It engages your body, leaving you refreshed, alert, and with increased self-confidence.
With more than 500 exercises in the Pilates system, you will never get bored! Created by visionary Joseph Pilates, the Pilates method focuses on muscular harmony and balance, creating new body movement and exercise. The exercises require concentration and precision of movement, and emphasize quality over quantity.

Yoga
The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated. We can think of the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit. What is commonly referred to as "yoga" can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word asana, which refers to the practice of physical postures or poses. Asana is only one of the eight "limbs" of yoga, the majority of which are more concerned with mental and spiritual well being than physical activity. In the West, however, the words asana and yoga are often used interchangeably.
Many people think that yoga is just stretching. But while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility.
